Whether you’re a waxing newbie or a seasoned pro, taking care of your skin after a waxing session is crucial to ensure the best results. That’s why this month at The Style Lounge, we’re giving you these five essential tips on post-waxing care to help you maintain smooth, radiant skin and minimize discomfort!
Hydration is Key
After waxing, your skin may feel slightly sensitive and dehydrated. Drinking polenta of water will help your body stay hydrated from the inside out, promoting healthy skin recovery. Hydrated skin is also less prone to irritation! If you want to go the extra mile, we recommend using a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to keep your skin nourished and soft.
Avoid Hot Baths and Showers
While a soothing hot bath might sound appealing, it’s best to avoid hot water for the first 24 to 48 hours after waxing. Hot water can further sensitize your skin and potentially lead to irritation. Opt for lukewarm water instead, and be gentle when cleansing the waxed area to prevent any unnecessary friction.
Exfoliate Wisely
Exfoliation is essential for preventing ingrown hairs and promoting smooth skin, but it’s important to approach it with caution after waxing. Try waiting at least 48 hours before exfoliating the waxed area. When you do choose to, use a gentle exfoliating scrub or a soft brush to slough off dead skin cells and help hairs grow in the right direction. Regular exfoliation can also help to reduce the risk of ingrown hairs!
Loose Clothing is a Must
Since your skin will be more sensitive than usual, opt for loose-fitting clothing made from breathable fabrics. Tight clothing can rub against your freshly waxed skin, leading to discomfort and potential ingrown hairs. Choosing comfortable attire will let your skin breathe and heal without any irritation.
Avoid Sun Exposure
Direct sun exposure can be harsh on freshly waxed skin, making it more susceptible to sunburns and hyperpigmentation. We recommend avoiding direct sunlight for at least 48 hours after waxing. However, if you find that you’ll be outdoors and in the sun, apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to protect your skin and the waxed area.
